100 Dogs in 100 Days

Hi I’m Obie.

Welcome to my blog. I’m very happy to be here with my new family.

I will be sharing my experiences as I grow and see the world through the eyes of an energetic, fun loving inquisitive 14 week old groodle puppy. For those of you that don’t know of my breed I am a combination of a golden retriever and standard poodle so I am going to get a lot bigger !

Hopefully I will still be cute.

I have been very busy since I arrived and I am already attending obedience training classes twice a week. My dog trainer shared something very Important with all the owners of young puppies in my class. Here it is 100 dogs in 100 days !!!!

My human asked her what this means ?

She explained that it is extremely important in the early stages of a dog’s life ( young puppies ) that they be socialised and exposed to as many different dogs and situations as possible on a daily basis. They should spend time with dogs of different ages, not just other young dogs and other puppies but older more senior dogs, so they learn their position in the dog pack/ pecking order.

Obedience training outings such as pack walks with other owners and their dogs is a great way to teach them to be calm and settled in public with other dogs.

Whenever you can take your dog with you to shops, cafe’s, public dog friendly places and teach them to be respectful and calm in the presence of other people and dogs. Over time they will see and accept this as a very normal part of life, they will be a pleasure to be with and also a safe dog that can be trusted when out in public. It will take work and dedication to train your puppy from an early age however dogs respond to discipline, routine and structure and will be happier for it.

I love going to puppy classes with my owner meeting new dogs and learning.

Until next time “ May the Growl be with you “

Obie.
